Leslie Recht, a Member at Defrees & Fiske, practices energy and real estate law, and represents public utilities in the gas, electric, water and other businesses in Illinois and the Midwest. She has participated in rate, rulemaking, and certificate proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, utility commissions in Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota and court appeals of those matters. She has negotiated utility contracts, litigated and advised utility clients on a variety of matters, and is also responsible for certain general corporate and real estate matters.
Ms. Recht is a 1970 graduate of the University of Chicago, where she graduated with an A.B. in political science and urban studies. She earned her J.D. from IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she graduated with high honors in 1974, and where she was a member of law review. Ms. Recht was an Adjunct Professor teaching energy and environmental law at IIT/Chicago-Kent from 1991-1997. Ms. Recht is a member of the utility law committee of the Chicago Bar Association, and a former chair of that committee. Ms. Recht is also a member of the Energy Bar Association, and is currently serving at the President of the Midwest Chapter of the Energy Bar Association.
